Hi and welcome to the first post of this blog. I am truly excited about starting it since having a blog has been in the back of my head for a long time now. 

When Matt and I moved to Mexico fours years ago, we struggled to find information about child friendly activities where we live and how you can experience it with young children safely. I had to somehow work my way around it, constantly translating things from Spanish, asking directly to friends and family and so on. In a nutshell it can be also quite daunting and difficult to find. 

Familiarised to the UK's ways of doing things and getting immediate and accurate information of places for children, I had to translate and do some proper research of how to go about. The following posts are our experience so far and hopefully there will be some families out there that might find this information useful.

Wandering in the cloud forest: INECOL'S Botanic Garden

Keen to spend our days at the park rather than crammed in a shopping centre, it wasn´t a surprise that we quickly found the local Botanic Garden. Located next to INECOL, a scientific  centre dedicated for 35 years to the study of environmental issues, el Jardin Botanico for its name in Spanish, is probably one of the most pleasing public places in Xalapa.  The park comprises a generous green area which is divided into sections of native trees, massive bamboos and even (tiny!) carnivorous plants. There is also a short forest trail that, tbh, might be a bit tricky to walk with young kids. We  found it difficult to visit the first time with a pram, as there are no such areas or path for such purpose (surprise surprise :) I recommend to take the baby carrier and leave the pram in the car.  The park is fairly quiet and not busy during the weekends.
